My Top Ten Buffy episodes |
I love this show, and I don't care what anyone says about the plausability of a vampire slayer, or SMG playing one, or the storyline or whatever. This is my single favorite show of all time, and I'm paying homage to it. I love it, I have the DVD box sets, and I will defend it to those naysayers. Still reading? Sweet. So, here are my top ten Buffy the Vampire Slayer eisodes.
1. Angel Season one Buffy's attraction to Angel grows, until she learns he's a vampire, and possibly attacked her mother. She learns of his innocence, and other things too.
Why? Not only did we learn about the mysterious Angel, but this episode started the forbidden romance between Buffy and Angel. It also realistically potrayed Buffy's teen lust for the brooding, older vampire.
2. Once More With Feeling Season six A musical demon is summoned to Sunnydale and makes everyone sing the truth.
Why? A remarkable music episode that pushed the story line, brought out secrets and opened up dark doors. Well done, well told. And, was a muscical?
3. Hush Season five A trio of demons, The Gentlemen, come to Sunnydale for their collection of hearts, and they take all towns voices so no one can hear you scream.
Why? Dark, scary, creepy and told in almost all silence. Not every TV show can pull that off.
4. The Wish Season three Cordelia, freshly broken up with Xander, wishing from the demon Anya that Buffy had never come to Sunnydale. Anya, still with powers, grants it and shows Cordy a slayerless Sunnydale in all its mayhem.
Why? A surpurb blend of comedy, dark, sarcasm and metaphor. It was also a chance for perfect role reversal with a chilling look at all the scoobies either dead or killing each other.
5. Dopplegangland Season three Willow's evil doppleganger comes to town and wants to spend all her free time killing.
Why? Another wonderful blend of comedy and dark.
6. The Prom Season three Buffy and Angel realize that their differences are too much to ignore. Angel decides they should break up.
Why? Buffy and Angel realize their love can't survive their differences, and Angel makes the hard choice of leaving Sunnydale. Heartbreaking for true fans, especially B/A shippers. Key scene was B/A dancing at her prom. Sad and uplifting at the same time.
7. Conversations With Dead People Season six Buffy, Dawn and Willow talk to the past dead, but they aren't actually talking to them at all -- the first manipulates and shatters all three.
Why In the structure of the season it had a lot to say and made great use of characters' past. It was interesting and the first all talk ep with little, to no fighting/death and everyone stays seperated.
8. Becoming part II Season two The evil Angelus wants to destroy the world, but Willow restores his soul. But not before he opened the portal to hell, which Buffy has to throw him in in order to close it.
Why? Buffy loses everything and is truely devasted. She flees the town, which breaks my heart. And she had to kill her first true love.
9. Passion Season three Evil Angel taunts the Scoobies, kills a friend and makes life miserable for the core four.
Why? Another dark turn from Angelus, emotionally stalling and creepy. An excellent story by rare writer Ty King. Angel's VO's are exceptionally well done.
10. Enemies season three Buffy and Angel trick Faith in order to gain info into the Mayors evil plan. But it leaves a crack in Buffy and Angel's relationship.
Why? A well written episode with a few surprises. It definelty cements Faith in the psycho bitch catagory and puts B/A on thin ice. I love the last five minutes.
Well, that's all she wrote. So may episodes, so little time. |

Left, Right, R1, X, L2, X, Up |
I do way too much gaming, and I also spend way too much time on g4 tv. What is g4 tv you ask? Well, it's a game/tech channel that is on channel 354 here in Chicago on Satallite. Not as good as it could be, but it is damn addictive and very fun for us game geeks. My favorite shows on it are:
Cheat! A half hour of cheat codes and tips for a certain game.
Attack of the Show a game forum of sorts, where three people sit around and talk game and tech, but in a very adult way.
X-Play Reviews of games, shows game clips, game trailers and anything new coming out. (one of the best shows on the channel)
Cinematech Nothing but clips of games and/or game trailers. Very cool
Video Mods Game characters singing and dancing to hit songs. Way cool!
Along with watching too much game tv, I love to read about it too, and my favorite game mag is Game Informer.
In homage to the game reviewers of that magazine, I have made my own game information panel. Ahem. Here it is.

Let's play "Tag" |
I was "tagged" for this post, so a shoutout to underachiever who not only linked me, but stops by often. Now, on to the blather...
Number of Books I own: 160
Last Book I Bought: "A writers guide to fiction" Elizabeth Lyon It was added to my already high pile of writing books.
Last Book I Read: "Incubus Dreams" Laurell K. Hamilton. Her books have been going downhill, (typos anyone? Is her editor asleep?) but I know I'll be buying the next one anyway.
Five Books That Mean A Lot To Me:
1. Tiger Eyes by Judy Blume A teen girl tries to get her life together after her father is shot in a store hold-up and her mother moves them to New Mexico. She meets a guy there, Wolf, who can symphatize with her fear and rage.
Cherished from my adolescence. I cry when I think of certain scenes. Sniff.
2. The Call of the Wild by Jack London a big, strong dog named Buck is kidnapped from his happy home and existence, made into a sled dog and forced to become feral in order to survive.
A sad, but truely captivating book. All from Buck's perspective.
3. Animal Farm by George Orwell The animals of Manor Farm stage an uprising against their owner.
I'll never forget the commandments. (Communism anyone?) Allegory at its best. Hee.
4. Blubber by Judy Blume Linda, an overweight girl, does a report on whales, soon, the popular girl starts calling her blubber and everyone else joins in the taunting and teasing.
Another cherished one from my adolescence. (Blume ruled my childhood) A great book about bullying, self-esteem and tolerance. I still love it.
5. Nickle and Dimed: on (not) getting by in America by Barbara Ehrenreich Basically, trying to get by on minimum wage; struggling to earn a living and survive in a society where the 'working poor' is never a truer statement.
A very interesting read; insightful and truthful. Though the author sometimes sounds like she's talking down to those struggling, it's still interesting (and sometimes sad) to see what people have to do to get by. Sometimes you can never get enough to get ahead so there's an evil, evil circle you travel.
That's just a sampling of my book tastes. For more please sign up for my Siminar:

Blog of the jobless |
Haven't posted in a few days, that's because any happy fun time I wanted to put into this blog lately to make it more interesting has been sucked out by my search for a job. The phrase of the day children is JOB HUNTING SUCKS!
I have an interview to volunteer, yes, that's right, volunteer at a hospital tommorow. Why volunteer you ask? Well, a really good friend reccomend I do it, (and I'm really not doing anything else anyway) and I sort of thought it might be useful because then I can use them as references and I can get some more experience that I can put on my resume. I have to volunteer for four hours a week, so I'm thinking 2 hours a day.
I've been faxing and emailing my ass off to jobs. I watched Morgan Spurlock's 30 days last night on F/X and it was pretty entertaining, and no you CANNOT live on mininum wage. Glad he reminded us. I really don't want to go back to Burger King. SOMEONE HIRE ME! (end rant)
Here's a little more on the special at Meat-eating leftist .
Next up, links to my favorite blogs. Stay tuned... |

What the Bloody Hell?! part III |
Okay, you all know how I want to fix up my blog? Okay, well I'm trying to add pics and such, but IT'S NOT WORKING! I seemed to be able to add this pic from quizilla, but that seems to be only because I had all the code she provided and then all I needed was the picture. But I've been uploading and uploading pics, where are they going? and where is the HTML needed to post them on my blog? I am seriously having trouble posting pics, when it seems to be so easy.
Everytime I upload a pic, blogger says it's been uploaded successfully, then what? Do I need all the code in my post before I upload?
Help? Tips? Suggestions? I'm clueless. |

The darkness of my soul (and how it's represented) |
Wow, I got a picture to load! I'm proud. Oh, and also, according to this test, I am very pessimistic. Go figure. Nothing ever works out for me anyway.
Your word is: Pessimistic. Everything in life you see as a negative thing. Whatever it is, it's always going to end badly. You feel frustrated that everything is falling apart while you can't do anything, but at the same time you are no risk-taker. It is likely that you've become this way by experience. Nothing, or rarely anything, turned out good for you, and now bad is a fact in your life. You are also more likely to sulk in a corner than change your way of life. But why change, when you've figured out how it all works?
What dark word represents you? (anime pics and 7 outcomes) brought to you by Quizilla |

I'M AN ANTI-DENTITE! |
Went to the dentist today, and boy does it suck not to have insurance, AND a dentist who doesn't keep track of prices and keeps yo-yoing them. What the fuck?! Anyway, had to have a gum scraping and he kept scraping and scraping...or, here's a bucket for you to barf in. Sorry. Ahem. So, I'm feeling better after scarfing a couple 800mg Ibuprofrin, or however you spell it.
At any rate, the numbing is going down and I'm glad to be home. Flowers and balloons are accepted. And a handsome, shirtless man to tuck me in will be promptly rewarded.
Now, off to watch some anime...and make this blog look a little more put together. Sheesh. |

surf nazi |
I spent all day on the internet today, sad, but true. I want to start posting on my old fanfiction website again. Yep, fanfiction. Don't laugh. I used to write Buffy and Angel fanfiction and I still enjoy it from time to time. It's depressing all the sites that are closed now that the shows are over. I closed mine too, but funny what you do when you have no life. Okay, now I really sound pathetic.
I think I'm hot and I have cramps. I could go on my 'I hate men' rant, you know 'cause of my period, but I'm too tired for that. I think I'll write a bit then read a bit. I have three library books out and am reading two of them at once and I still haven't gotten anywhere. I also must post pics of my kitties. I have three. They're soooooo cute. At least I think so.
Now, how to upload pic...? |

What the Bloody Hell?! part II |
I'm still working on my blog and trying to get it looking the way I want, as I'm sure you can tell. I was writing today and discovered that some of my savings didn't save. NOT the first time it's happened mind you. I'm so tired of writing shit over! You have no idea how annoying it is to be on a writing high, get your thoughts out only to realize it didn't save. It's like someone ripped out my soul and sold it, with an ALL SALES FINAL! note.
On the good side -- no I didn't find a job, but my anime 'beserk' came from netflix today. Happy to get that. I love that series and I'm really into it now. I'm going to post a link to my nextflix account, you know, so you can see what kind of stuff I like. Not that you care, but this is my blog. hee hee.
Also, thanks to my first two posters. I'm a dork, yes, but I'm also happy that someone stopped by. I must have tea and scones for you next time. Giles would. Funny, I haven't had a Buffy or Angel rant yet. I know it's coming. I can feel it. Ahh, thank god for DVD. |

What the Bloody Hell?! |
Okay, I'm trying to change the colors and fonts for this blog and I realize that...I CAN'T!! Not that I don't like this one, mind you, but I just wanted a brighter color than brown. Sigh. I guess I'll have to go with a whole new blog. Upset now. At any rate, that was pretty much my day. Exciting, wasn't it? No, it really wasn't. |

Publishers Suck! |
I'm on a writing list and right now we're talking about how hard it is to get into the writing business. Okay, I know it's as hard to get into as singing, or dancing, or acting and what it takes is talent and a whole lot of luck -- and who you know. But it's so friggin' annoying to get rejections, not that I'm at that stage, but this is a pre-rejection suck. I go to the bookstore and there are thousands of books and I think , who the hell is reading all these books and if these people are getting published -- why can't I?! It's always about money, but I don't think it was always that way. I remember reading something about genres and how it's hard to break out now because every genre has it's star. Like, if you write thrillers, well we already have James Patterson and John Grisham, so it's like, you have to compete with them and people already know them, know that they like them and know they're good. So, if your new thriller is next to the latest James Patterson. Guess who they're gonna pick? SIGH. Ain't that the way it goes. Later people. |

In the beginning... |
Wow, my first blog. What should I post? Well, I guess I should introduce myself. I go by gunngirl. While not as clever as I meant it to be, that name came from the character Charles Gunn, from the TV show Angel. Even if you only read this first post and never come back, you will forever know the eternal flame I carry for the Buffy the Vampire Slayer/Angel (BtVS/AtS) universe. Ahem, back to the name. I wanted to say I was gunn's girl, as in, we were together. Hokey? Whatever, it's my fantasy. But it ended up being gunngirl and I left it at that. I plan to post writings from the untitled, unpublished novel I'm working on. Asides from my many...asides on the subject of Buffy, I'll be talking about the onward struggle of becoming a published writer. Anyone feel my pain? Any other writers care to share in my crying circle? Don't be shy, the Kleenex is free. Still interested? Still awake? Stay tuned... |
